After emerging from behind to defeat Cremonese 2-1 at the bottom of the standings, Inter Milan moved up to second in Serie A.
Simone Inzaghi’s team trailed after just 11 minutes thanks to a breathtaking long-range goal from David Okereke. However, Inter didn’t trail for long as Lautaro Martinez’s close-range rebound tied the score 10 minutes later. The lead was eventually taken by the hosts through Martinez’s deflected goal 65 minutes into the second half as a result of the hosts’ continued dominance.
Six corners from Inter during the opening minutes gave them the upper hand, but Cremonese scored on their first attempt at goal thanks to a spectacular strike from distance by Okereke that dipped and looped into the far top corner.
After Edin Dzeko missed a chest and volley from a good position, Inter equalised in the eighth corner of the game. Marco Carnesecchi had made a terrific save on Dzeko, but he was helpless to stop the Lautaro Martinez follow-up. It was a great way for Lautaro to make his Serie A debut in that role.
After 29 minutes, Acerbi missed the sliding tackle and lunged his leg to catch Okereke, putting himself at risk of receiving a straight red card. Due to the proximity of Alessandro Bastoni and the fact that it was still in midfield, far from the goal, it was only given a yellow card.
Dzeko’s penalty appeals for a Chiriches tackle were stronger, but the referee decided not to award a spot-kick because he felt it was too minor of a contact.
When Dzeko found Lautaro Martinez, Inter turned the tide of the match. Lautaro Martinez’s shot from a tight angle was deflected by Johan Vasquez and looped over Carnesecchi into the far right corner.
In order to beat Onana from close range, Buonaiuto couldn’t muster enough force on a Dessers pullback, and Dessers only managed to hit the side-netting while being pressed by Alessandro Bastoni. In stoppages, Denzel Dumfries witnessed his strong angled drive sting Carnesecchi’s gloves before rebounding off Chiriches and landing on the net’s roof.
