With a 1-0 victory over Atalanta on Tuesday, defending champions Inter advanced to the Coppa Italia semifinals. Matteo Darmian’s goal in the second half was the difference.
For a spot in the championship game, Simone Inzaghi’s Inter will now play the winner of Thursday’s match between Juventus and Lazio.
Hakan Calhanoglu’s shot at the post 4 minutes before added time was the closest Nerrazzuri came to scoring despite being the superior team in the first half.
Darmian received the ball at the edge of the box and, unmarked, put the ball into the bottom corner to give Inter the lead after 57 minutes.
Atalanta’s best opportunity came just before halftime, but Duván Zapata missed it with a powerful header from right in front of goal. Up until the very end of the game, Atalanta tried to equalise, but the Inter defence stopped them.
In the other quarterfinal matchup on Wednesday, Roma takes on Cremonese while Fiorentina takes on Torino.
