Barcelona defender Eric Garcia is reportedly a target for Juventus, during the summer transfer window.
Juventus is reportedly interested in signing Barcelona defender Eric Garcia during the summer transfer window, according to a report by Italian outlet Calciomercato. After bringing Gleison Bremer to the Allianz Stadium last month, the Serie A powerhouses are looking to add a second center-back to their roster.
The Spanish international played 36 times for Barcelona last season with high expectations for his second stint at the Catalan club. Garcia’s position at Camp Nou, however, is in jeopardy as a result of the summertime arrivals of Jules Kounde and Andreas Christensen. The Spaniard has effectively moved up to Juventus’ fifth-choice center-back, and they may try to pry him away from Barcelona.
After Matthijs de Ligt asked for and eventually received his release by joining Bayern Munich last month, the situation in defensive department has changed. Garcia enters the picture because the Serie A giants need to sign another center-back despite the fact that they have since signed Gleison Bremer. Garcia won’t be Barcelona’s first-choice central defender in the upcoming season as Jules Kounde has joined from Sevilla. And given the competition for a spot in Luis Enrique’s team, the 21-year-best old’s course of action may be to transfer to Juventus.
However, Pau Torres from Villarreal is another center-back that Juventus is interested in signing in addition to Garcia. In the coming days, it will be interesting to see who Juventus targets most, with a loan move for the Barcelona defender being a possibility.
