SERIE A | JUVENTUS 2-0 SPEZIA: JUVENTUS GETS BACK TO WINNING WAYS

Last Updated on 01/09/2022 by

Juventus defeated Spezia thanks to yet another Dusan Vlahovic free kick and Arkadiusz Milik’s first club goal.

After two consecutive draws with Sampdoria and Roma, Juventus were under pressure and still without Leonardo Bonucci, Paul Pogba, Federico Chiesa, and Kaio Jorge. Federico Gatti made his Serie A debut as Angel Di Maria, who had been sidelined with a muscle strain, returned to the bench. Albin Ekdal was on suspension from Spezia, and Daniel Maldini, Kelvin Amian, and Salva Ferrer all had injuries. After completing his loan with an obligation to buy from Paris Saint-Germain, Leandro Paredes was watching from the stands.

After nine minutes, Dusan Vlahovic gave the crowd an replica of the opening goal he scored against Roma with a flawless free kick into the near top corner.

Emmanuel Gyasi successfully lobbed the ball into the goal, but only after straying far offside. While Spezia persisted in pressing, Gleison Bremer made a crucial interception on Holm’s cross for M’Bala Nzola. However, on the corner that followed, Szczesny fell heavily and had to be carried away.

On the verge of halftime, Juan Cuadrado’s appeals for a penalty were denied after it appeared that he had only just collided with Petko Hristov. Fabio Miretti’s shot was diverted for a corner, but Bartlomiej Dragowski had to clear a corner kick by Vlahovic’s header. After returning from injury, Angel Di Maria sent Danilo through on the break, but the Brazilian missed his shot.

Arek Milik, a substitute, scored his first goal for Juventus in the extra period to secure the final score. When Milik controlled the ball with his back to the goal and spun Hristov in one motion, he drilled in from 10 yards after Miretti turned a defender to burst down the right and roll across.

Juventus does enough to overcome well-organized opponents, even though an early Vlahovic free-kick was the game’s most spectacular moment for the second time in less than a week. It wasn’t pretty, but Allegri won’t care because Juventus are back on track with a win and remain unbeaten this season. Spezia certainly held their own against frequently passive hosts, but a glaring lack of nous in and around the Juve area meant that they rarely threatened to equalize.
