Lecce 2-2 Milan: Rossoneri held at frustrating draw again by tough Lecce

Leao and Calabria rescued a point considering Milan was down 2-0 to Lecce after 23 minutes, holding them to a second straight 2-2 draw.

It took less than three minutes for Lecce to score when Pierre Kalulu gave the ball away carelessly and Di Francesco scooped in a cross from the left for Blin. However, Theo Hernandez bundled the ball to his own net off his chest while attempting to intercept.

An unmarked Di Francesco was found down the left side of the field by Gabriel Strefezza moments later, and he drew Ciprian Tatarusanu out before shooting an angled shot that should have made it 2-0.

Milan should have equalised, but Pobega beat the offside trap and shot directly at Wladimiro Falcone, and Olivier Giroud missed the rebound with a high shot.

Lecce added a second goal after Di Francesco’s shot went wide. Federico Baschirotto headed Hjulmand’s cross across Pierre Kalulu and into the bottom left corner of the goal.

Tatarusanu’s gloves were pricked by Gabriel Strefezza, and Gendrey miraculously misdirected a free header from Di Francesco’s cross at the back post. After receiving a pass from Alexis Saelemaekers, Pobega turned away from goal, and Falcone flew in to tip a Giroud header over the crossbar.

After the break, Milan improved, with a Brahim Diaz cross-shot hitting the roof of the net and Rafael Leao’s finish being deflected off-target by Baschirotto. When Giroud’s shot was parried and everyone anticipated Leao to cross it back in from the left, he shocked Falcone by scoring from an awkward angle.

Gallo was fouled by Davide Calabria on the edge of the box, but Giroud made the difference at the other end by deflecting a cross from Sergino Dest in time for the Calabria’s looping header and a 2-2 result.

Junior Messias hammered the upright in Milan’s attempt to score the game-winning goal, and Baschirotto cleared Giroud’s follow-up shot off the line. However, the offside flag was up. The other end also experienced a major scare when Tatarusanu pushed the ball onto Fikayo Tomori after Gallo nudged Calabria to pull back from the by-line and the ricochet narrowly missed the open net and give careless lead to Lecce.
