In order to set the stage for Roma’s 3-0 demolition of Monza, who are still at the bottom, Paulo Dybala scored his first 2 goals while wearing the Roma jersey.
Despite being without injured players Zaniolo, Wijnaldum, and Darboe, the Giallorossi wanted to maintain their lead. Even though Pessina was finally ready to start, Monza was already threatening to fire Stroppa after their first-ever Serie A season began with three straight losses despite losing Ranocchia, D’Alessandro, and Mari.
A route one goal was used to break the scoreless tie. Tammy Abraham’s header flicked on the long ball from inside his own half, sending Dybala scurrying between two defenders where he took a few touches before slamming the ball into the goal from just inside the box. Dybala’s first goal while wearing the Roma uniform.
After just 27 minutes due to a thigh injury, Kumbulla was replaced by Smalling, and Roma doubled their advantage thanks to another goal from Dybala. Once more, the midfielder sent a ball over the top. Abraham spun Marrone and forced Di Gregorio to make a one-handed save, but Dybala was waiting for the rebound. Additionally, it was the Dybala’s 100th Serie A goal.
On Lorenzo Pellegrini’s assist, Andrea Petagna’s header was deflected wide, and Paulo Dybala’s attempt was stopped, while Abraham had the double chance charged down after eluding Marlon.
In the waning moments, Andrea Belotti made his Roma debut and would have scored with a volley at the back post but for Di Gregorio’s frantic reaction save. Roger Ibanez’s thunderous header to a Pellegrini corner made the score 3-0. Stephan El Shaarawy suffered yet another injury during stoppages, and Di Gregorio once again stopped Leonardo Spinazzola with a superb save. With this Roma demolished Monza by 3-0 in matchday four.
