On Tuesday, August 30th in Serie A, Roma will host the recently promoted Monza in an intriguing matchup.
While Monza lost all 3 of their games upon their re-entry into Italy’s top division, Giallorossi began the new Serie A campaign with two victories and one draw. Roma is without a doubt the overwhelming favourite in this match, especially since they are also the hosts. The Giallorossi is in excellent form right now, and they haven’t allowed more than 2.67 shots on goal per game so far this season, so I am giving anod to Roma for this win.
Roma’s back-to-back 1-0 victories to start their second Serie A season under Jose Mourinho raised Scudetto hopes, and on Saturday’s 1-1 draw at Juventus, they furthered their case for the league title. With a skillful free kick, Dusan Vlahovic broke through their defence for the first time, but Tammy Abraham earned a commendable draw for Roma, who have yet to give up a goal in normal play.
In their last five competitive games, Roma has won four shutouts, including last season’s victory in the Europa Conference League final. Only three Serie A teams have allowed fewer expected goals than Giallorossi, who are the heavy favourites to defeat newly promoted Monza despite having played against likely underdogs in each of their first 2 games.
Monza have lost all 3 of their games since being promoted, losing 4-0 at Napoli before suffering 2-1 losses at home to Torino and Udinese. Although Monza are still trying to integrate an astounding number of new players, allowing 49 shots in their Serie A games to this point does not augur well for a trip to the capital.
Possible Lineups:
Roma: Rui Patricio, Mancini, Smalling, Ibanez, Celik, Pellegrini, Matic, Spinazzola, Dybala, Abraham, El Shaarawy
Monza: Di Gregorio, Marlon, Ranocchia, Carboni, Birindelli, Ranocchia, Barberis, Sensi, D’Alessandro, Caprari, Petagna
