Giacomo Raspadori and Eljif Elmas scored for Napoli, giving them all three points, but Salernitana’s Guillermo Ochoa and the woodwork saved the tally from showing more than one goal.
Lorenzo Pirola’s header on a corner was saved, but the home team tried to play their way out from the back and were caught out. Stanislav Lobotka intercepted the ball to assist Giacomo Raspadori with the outside of the boot. Giacomo Raspadori sprung the offside trap and right-footed the ball into the far top corner of the goal and gave lead to Napoli. This was his third consecutive official game in which he scored a goal.
It was argued by Salernitana that Matias Olivera was offside during the buildup to the goal, but the Video Assistant Referee was unable to rule on the matter because the home team had won possession of the ball and then lost it again before the goal.
After a superb team play that consisted of rapid passes, Matteo Politano’s curler was palmed over the bar by Guillermo Ochoa, and then Raspadori’s deflected finish was fingertipped round the base of the near post.
After the resumption, Raspadori once again stung Ochoa’s gloves, and Politano believed he had scored on the 49th minute, but the left-foot curler from outside the box clipped the upright instead of going in. The action resumed after the break.
After Piotr Zielinski and Raspadori shocked Federico Fazio on the Kvaratskhelia ball drifted over the top, Pirola placed himself in the way of Politano in order to prevent a goal from being scored by the opposing team.
The half-volley that Zielinski took on a corner kick that was cleared required Ochoa to make a diving save, and Cholito Simeone’s finish went well wide of the goal.
Elmas, who came on as a replacement, raced down the left side of the field, used a dummy to get past Mamadou Coulibaly, and then curved a right-footed shot into the far bottom corner. This goal was scored on the counterattack.
