Police are looking into allegations that late on Sunday, AS Roma and Italy midfielder Nicolo Zaniolo was insulted and threatened near his home in the Casal Palocco neighbourhood of Rome by a group of fans in cars.
When things turned violent, Roma’s team manager called the police to help. According to sources, police are trying to identify about 15 people who are involved.
The 23-year-old Zaniolo, who has submitted a transfer request after losing favour at Jose Mourinho’s Roma, has infuriated the fans. Zaniolo was not selected by Mourinho for Sunday’s 2-1 loss at Serie A leaders Napoli.
