Romelu Lukaku was the star of Inter’s 3-0 victory over Spezia on Saturday, their second victory in as many Serie A games after his return from Chelsea.

The Belgian forward contributed to two goals, one by Lautaro Martinez and the other by Hakan Calhanolu, and was replaced by Edin Dzeko in the 68th minute to the jubilant cheers of the home crowd. In the 82nd minute, Dzeko assisted fellow substitute Correa in scoring the third goal.

Before the break, Lukaku nearly added to his goal from Inter’s opening victory over recently promoted Lecce by crashing a header off the crossbar. Although Inter had an early advantage, the home crowd had to wait until the 35th minute for Martinez to score.

Lukaku returned a cross from Nicolo Barella for Martinez to shoot inside the left post. In the 52nd minute, Skriniar received a pass from Lukaku after the Belgian skipped past one defender and faced five additional opponents. Despite being blocked, Skriniar’s attempted return pass fell kindly for Calhanolu to score.

As we approached the 70-minute mark, the guests managed a few shots that missed the target. Inter easily handled the sporadic threat when the first shot was blocked and the second went over the bar.

After almost securing the victory, Simone Inzaghi rested his star players, pulling Nicolo Barella, Lukaku, Martinez, and Calhanoglu from the game. Before realizing the mistake, Inzaghi had the assistant put the wrong number up on his board for Nicolo Barella.

Correa replaced Martinez and added Inter’s third goal of the game eight minutes from time. To finish off a victory full of the kind of poise and bravery that supporters were hoping to see, Edin Dzeko deftly played the ball into the path of his teammates, who brushed off a defender to score.
