Inter defeated Juventus 2-1 on aggregate at San Siro. Full back Dimarco made the difference by scoring a crucial winning goal by a lovely through ball from Barella.

Simone Inzaghi made whooping nine changes to the Inter team from the last match. Onana started in goal in place of Samir Handanovic, and Darmian and Bastoni started in the defence line. While Barella and Mkhitaryan moved into the midfield, Dumfries and Dimarco replaced Gosens and Bellanova at the position of wing-back. Lukaku and Correa were benched, leaving Martinez and Dzeko as the front two.

Massimiliano Allegri made seven changes in Juventus side from the Napoli loss at home over the weekend, switching to a three-man defence. Between the sticks, Perin was chosen over Sczcesny, and Bonucci, Bremer, and Sandro were added to the back three. Chiesa, De Sciglio, and Di Maria were the additional three players added to the starting XI.

When Barella’s dangerous cross found Dzeko at the back post, it was at a tricky height for the striker and it managed to strike him, going behind for a goal-kick. This gave the visitors a major scare.

Dimarco sent in a corner that was flicked on by Bastoni into the Juventus box, but luckily for Juventus, Alex Sandro was in the right place to head the ball away before Dumfries could nod it in.

Barella’s exquisite throughball into the path of Dimarco gave Inter the lead in the 15th minute, and they can thank him for that. The wide player scooped past Perin on the first attempt by using the outside of his boot to give his team a 1-0 lead and a 2-1 aggregate advantage.

Juventus came within inches of scoring when Di Maria headed wide of the left post after receiving a cross from the left. Martinez was found by Dimarco on the edge of the penalty area, and after taking a touch off his chest, the striker swung at goal. However, the ball went up far above the crossbar.

Kostic made a right foot cut and slammed the ball goalward. Onana leaped to his right to tip his powerful effort behind for a corner, even though it appeared to be threatening. Martinez’s left-footed shot nearly found the back of the Juventus’ net, but Perin made a shrewd save to stop it.

Miretti placed the ball on his left boot and released it, but he erred terribly, and the ball flew far over. From outside the box, Locatelli attempted to curl a shot towards the bottom left corner, but Onana easily dropped to gather the ball, protecting his side’s slim lead.

Martinez attempted to shoot from a narrow angle, but it lacked the force or direction to seriously trouble Merin, who collected with ease. Martinez struggled to catch the ball on the slide after Dumfries’ strong run concluded with him swinging a teaser across the goal face.

Dimarco fired a free-kick in the direction of Lukaku, but it sat up quite nicely for Mkhitaryan to score on the first attempt. Perin did a good job of deflecting his shot away from harm as he fired it towards the far corner.

In order to shoot, Correa chose to charge ahead on the counter attack and overlooked his options to the left and right. It turned out to be a bad choice because Bremer restricted his long-range attempt.

De Sciglio knocked down Gosens, giving Inter a free kick with a high risk of danger. The free kick was launched by Brozovic, and it deflected off Gagliardini and a Juventus player before nestling in the goal.
