Lazio – Bologna Match Recap

Last Updated on 15/08/2022 by

Ciro Immobile provided the winning goal as Lazio defeated Bologna 2-1 despite having Maximiano dismissed after just six minutes of play.

Alessio Romagnoli made his first appearance while wearing the Lazio uniform, replacing Pedro who was injured and Mattia Casale who was suspended. After receiving leukemia treatment, Mihajlovic was able to rejoin the team, but new addition Lewis Ferguson was forced to sit out a two-game suspension. Because Luis Maximiano, making his Serie A debut, utterly misjudged the rush off his line to smother at Marko Arnautovic’s feet and strayed outside the penalty area, it was an aggressive start for Lazio but also a terrible one. After six minutes, the hosts had 10 men left after committing an automatic red card offense as per the rules. Toma Basic was replaced by Ivan Provedel.

Ciro Immobile’s angled drive whistled inches wide after going across the face of goal, Manuel Immobile was fingertipped off by Lazzari’s cross, and Provedel was called upon to engage Lorenzo De Silvestri one-on-one. When Alessio Romagnoli botched his clearance, Mattia Zaccagni attempted to boot it away but instead caught Nicola Sansone. Bologna’s Marko Arnautovic, who converted the penalty and received a booking for excessive celebration in the Lazio end, took the lead.

Before the break, Adama Soumaoro collected his second caution of the contest, reducing Bologna to 10 men. After the break, things only got tenser, with fights breaking out, many bookings, and objections to every judgment. The far post was grazed by Mattia Zaccagni’s attempt from outside the box, but Lazio managed to equalize in a frantic manner. Lazzari’s slanted shot was parried by Lukasz Skorupski at full stretch; Lorenzo De Silvestri was struck, and the ball was on its way into the goal until Ciro Immobile intervened on the line.

The following Lazio goal was unquestionably attributed to Immobile, who beat Skorupski one-on-one with a deft finish after beating the offside trap on a through pass from Sergej Milinkovic-Savic. Bologna promptly responded, with Provedel parrying a fierce long-range shot, but Lazio managed to hold on for the victory in an extremely heated match.
