According to a report, Mike Maignan, AC Milan’s first-choice goalkeeper, won’t be available for Tuesday’s first leg against Tottenham Hotspur in the Champions League.
Mike Maignan has been out since suffering a calf injury in Les Bleus’ victory over Austria in the Nations League on September 22.
Following his withdrawal from the World Cup in Qatar, the French international missed Milan’s last 20 games in all competitions as he recovered.
At first, there was hope that Maignan’s condition would improve in time for him to play again when Tottenham came to San Siro for the first leg of their round of 16 matchup on Tuesday.
The 27-year-old, according to Gazzetta dello Sport, has experienced a setback in his recovery and won’t be ready to face Spurs.
Maignan’s initial calf issue was only supposed to keep him out for a month, but before he made his comeback at the end of October, the former Lille player was found to have a more serious calf tear.
The report also states that the shot-stopper is unlikely to be ready before the end of the month, despite the fact that his recovery has since accelerated. But assuming no further complications, Maignan will be able to play in the March 8 second leg of Milan’s last-16 match against Tottenham.
Alessandro Florenzi, Ismael Bennacer, and Fikayo Tomori are all in the treatment room in addition to Maignan, who will not be starting in goal for Milan against Tottenham. Ciprian Tatarusanu, 36, will start in goal for Milan.
