Sassuolo defeated Lecce thanks to Domenico Berardi’s stunning volley. Berardi once again proving the important piece of Sassuolo’s attack.
Sassuolo had just suffered a crushing defeat at the hands of Juventus, ended up losing Mert Muldur to injury, and let Giacomo Raspadori go to Napoli. Additionally injured was Hamed Junior Traore, but Andrea Pinamonti made his debut and Maxime Lopez made his comeback from a suspension. Lecce, who had just been promoted, fell to Inter in the final seconds of the game to open the season.
Di Francesco’s long-range shot sting Andrea Consigli’s gloves, Domenico Berardi’s curling effort flashed inches wide of the far post, and Ceesay’s finish on the counter-attack took a crucial diversion off Martin Erlic to loop just wide of the goal.
A corner kick was cleared as far as 20 yards from the goal, where Berardi watched it come down and struck the ideal swing to blow that into the net. The Neroverdi quickly took the lead. Their forwards narrowly missed a number of serious Lecce crosses from the right, and both Berardi’s curler and a free kick by Thorir Helgason were off-target.
