After a disappointing finish to the 2022, Atalanta will make their Serie A debut on Wednesday afternoon.
There was talk that Atalanta would only get better before the World Cup because of their higher rest time compared to many of their competitors after having missed out on playing European football this season. However, Gian Piero Gasperini’s dropped out of championship contention and into 6th place after dropping 4 of their 5 matches prior to the action break.
In two of these games, against Napoli and Inter Milan, Atalanta had a lead but lost due to a flurry of goals conceded. These losses could be crucial at the end of the season.
Even though Gasperini is confident that things will turn around on Wednesday, another setback could leave Atalanta cut off from the teams vying for Champions League qualification.
This season, Spezia has experienced lengthy winless streaks that have lasted at least five games on two separate occasions. Nevertheless, Aquilotti has moved above the bottom three after winning four points in matches against Udinese and Hellas Verona before the World Cup.
Despite the fact that Luca Gotti’s team hasn’t won consecutive league games all season, there have been indications for some time that one of the division’s underdogs has been improving.
Even though Spezia lost out to Fiorentina and AC Milan due to late goals, they have still managed to take four points from their last three games and could potentially move up the table with a good performance in the midweek fixtures. This resilience has been a key factor in keeping the team out of the relegation zone and has shown that Spezia can compete with some of Italy’s biggest teams
Spezia Team News
Bartlomiej Dragowski, Spezia’s first-choice goalkeeper, is still out after breaking his ankle during the victory over Verona the last time they played. It’s possible that this is the only adjustment Gotti makes for this fixture; Jeroen Zoet will take the place of the Polish stopper between the sticks. Albin Ekdal should keep his spot in central midfield even though Daniele Verde took his place at intermission of the Verona game.
Possible Lineup
Zoet; Amian, Caldara, Kiwior; Holm, Ekdal, Ampadu, Agudelo, Bastoni; Gyasi, Mbala Nzola
