Milan vs Napoli : Match preview and possible lineups

Last Updated on 18/09/2022 by

On Sunday, Milan will host Napoli, who are currently leading the Serie A standings, in a matchup between two teams that could contend for the league title this season. We anticipate another tight and tense 90 minutes at the San Siro despite the recent sparring between these two clubs.

In terms of the outcome, i am betting on a draw in Sunday’s Serie A match. Both teams have had successful and comparable starts to the new campaign. Even though Milan has the home advantage this weekend, neither team has benefited from it recently as neither team has won at home in any of the last six meetings between these two clubs. This weekend, Napoli will be without Osimhen due to injury, and Milan will be without their top goal threats due to Leao’s suspension and Ibrahimovic’s ongoing injury.

Four of the previous six league meetings between these two clubs, including each of their meetings last season, saw under 2.5 goals scored. You can see why we’ve backed this matchup for a low-scoring contest given that under 2.5 goals have also been scored in three of Milan’s and three of Napoli’s last six matches.

Last weekend, Milan traveled to Sampdoria, where Junior Messias’ goal after just six minutes gave the Italian powerhouses the lead. Before the hour mark, Sampdoria’s Duricic equalized for them after Rafael Leao was dismissed early in the second half for a second infraction that could have earned him a booking. The visitors eventually got what they deserved when Giroud converted a penalty kick in the 67th minute to give them a 2-1 victory after Milan recovered and kept trying to score a second goal.

The previous time these two teams faced off, Napoli was picked to win easily at home against Spezia, but the game turned out to be much tougher for the hosts. Before Raspadori scored the game’s lone goal for Napoli in the 89th minute, the first 45 minutes had ended scoreless, and the second half appeared to be headed in a similar direction.

Possible Lineup for Milan – Maignan, Kjær, Calabria, Hernández, Kalulu, Bennacer, Tonali, De Ketelaere, Giroud, Salamaekers & Messias

Possible Lineup for Napoli– Meret, Jesus, Rui, Di Lorenzo, Rrahmani, Ndombélé, Zambo Anguissa, Elmas, Politano, Kvaratskhelia & Raspadori
